In Engeland en Ierland wordt lijsterbes rondom de huizen geplant om geesten en heksen buiten te houden. Omwille van deze reden wordt het in Wales ook aan begraafplaatsen terug gevonden. In Schotland was het dan weer taboe om lijsterbes om te hakken.

Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) - Bane of witches & producer of jam In England & Ireland Rowan used to be planted by houses to protect against witches or spirits. In Wales they were planted in churchyards. Cutting down a Rowan was considered taboo in Scotland
